Quitting smoking – SUCCESSFUL!
Why
I decided at the age of 32 that I needed to give up smoking. I had been smoking since the age of 13 and had tried to stop at at 23 unsuccessfully and decided at 32 I HAD to do it once and for all. I was a 20 a day smoker and would kill everyone if I did not get a cigarette every 2 hours.
Methods tried
Nicorette tabs
These were convenient to stick under the tongue in a customer service setting, but they made me hiccup. I managed to cut them down to a small amount, but after a year started smoking due to a stressful situation. I also ate a lot to compensate and put on weight.
Reading Allen Carr “stop smoking”
A very good book that made me think that smoking was stupid, but it did not give me enough will power to stop.
Hypnotherapy
I was skeptical about it and the first time I tried it with a really cheap hypnotherapist, it didn’t work. The second time, I realised that will power was required as well. The hypnotherapist linked the taste of smoke to a food I hate more than anything else, baked beans! After the session I promised myself that I would not smoke for 3 weeks. This was how much I would have paid in cigarettes as I did for the session. I only seemed to crave one a day (at 3pm!) and I could get over that. After two week I realised this was the longest I had ever been without nicotine and vowed to never smoke again.
Results
I have not even thought about smoking in 4 years. I can’t remember being a smoker and have no desire to smoke. If people are smoking, I love the smell, but if I even think of the taste, I get the taste of baked beans in my mouth.
