Settling in

How to feel part of a community quickly.

Whether I am somewhere for a couple of nights or a couple of years, I like the people around me to know I exist. Part of this is a safety measure, but part of this is that it’s nice to feel like I belong.

I have hearing problems, and am the worlds most talkative introvert, so I have a social battery of about 2 hours before I want to die in a quiet place. This means that a lot of ‘activites’ are not a good fit for me, but they may be for you.

Whever you are somewhere for a couple of nights or a couple of years, there are hints and tips that make things easier. I will be adding them to these pages over time.

The simplest thing I can say in the mean time is to just try. Make an effort. Say hi to people and chat for a couple of mins. After that you can always make your excuses and leave.
